Muganga SACCO Holds 7th Ordinary GA

Delegates of Muganga SACCO’s General Assembly gathered at Lemigo Hotel on Thursday, November 21st, 2024, for a meeting attended by member representatives, partners, leadership, and stakeholders to discuss the cooperative’s future. The meeting was also graced by a representative from the Ministry of Health, the Guest of Honor, Dr. Semakula Muhammed, Head of Department of Planning Monitoring & Evaluation and Health Financing.

The General Assembly reviewed and approved the 2025–2027 three-year business plan to accelerate growth, foster innovation, improve service delivery, and increase membership. Representatives emphasized the plan’s importance in enabling Muganga SACCO to continue offering expanded financial services.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to present a progress report on the GIRIWAWE initiative, a major project designed to expand the cooperative’s services and facilitate affordable housing for its members. Attendees expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress, stating that it aligns with Muganga SACCO’s core mission of providing accessible financial services to members.

During the session, a report on the past three years of activities conducted by the outgoing Board of Directors was presented. Additionally, elections were held to appoint a new Board of Directors for a five-year term under Rwanda’s revised cooperative law.

The newly elected Board of Directors includes Dr Philbert Muhire as Chairperson, Ms. Diana Mutoni as Vice Chairperson, Dr Deborah Abimana as Secretary, and Maj. Innocent Kagabo and Mr. Sylver Mugumya, PMP® as Board Members.

Independent directors Ms. Judith Kazaire and Mr. Fred Mugisha, CPA, CGMA, PMP®, will continue their mandate for the next five years. After the elections, the newly appointed leaders took their oath of office before the General Assembly.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. Semakula Muhammed, commended Muganga SACCO for its commitment to improving the welfare of healthcare workers through financial services. In his speech, he applauded the progress made by SACCO and reaffirmed the Ministry of Health’s continued collaboration in further strengthening the cooperative.

Muganga SACCO was established to provide specialized financial services for healthcare professionals. Some of its notable achievements include the adoption of digital banking services and the introduction of specialized loan products, such as GIRIWAWE, in partnership with the Development Bank of Rwanda and the Ministry of Health.

The implementation of the projects outlined in the approved business plan will further enhance Muganga SACCO’s support for its members and its contribution to the health sector at large.
